The Milwaukee Bucks are open to engaging with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo deal, but league discussions indicate Jaden McDaniels would be a required centerpiece, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. Minnesota’s framework would need to include McDaniels, Naz Reid, Terrence Shannon Jr., and two first-round picks.

McDaniels, 25, is entering the third year of his five-year, $131 million contract, placing him in a cost-controlled window while still carrying long-term team control. His defensive versatility across forward positions and ability to scale into a complementary scoring role has made him one of Minnesota’s most valuable two-way pieces.

The proposed structure highlights the cost of acquiring a two-time MVP under contract control. Antetokounmpo remains under a long-term deal, and Milwaukee’s leverage is tied to both his production profile and the limited number of teams capable of assembling comparable trade packages.

McDaniels contributed 14.8 points per game while maintaining his primary defensive assignment responsibilities.

The Wolves’ positioning in trade discussions is further complicated by Antetokounmpo’s reported preference to remain in the Eastern Conference. That preference narrows the list of viable destinations and reduces Minnesota’s practical leverage despite theoretical asset strength.
