Mark Cuban's legal challenge against Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has been resolved for now, with Cuban's lawyers withdrawing a Rule 202 petition they had filed in July. The petition sought sworn testimony from a corporate representative of Arena Development Intermediate, a company the Mavericks formed in Delaware as part of the franchise's push to build a new arena in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Cuban had originally sought additional information about the company's corporate structure and financial documents, arguing he was entitled to details withheld from him when the Mavericks entered an option agreement this summer to purchase a 104-acre site at the former Valley View Mall in North Dallas.

"It defies belief that the Valley View Options are 'purely exploratory,'" Cuban's lawyers wrote in a notice of nonsuit filed Monday in the Texas Business Court. "But straining to trade a public hearing for a shroud of secrecy, Arena Development Intermediate, LLC finally revealed what it had concealed: its corporate structure, ultimate ownership, and affiliate status. ADI's disclosure confirms it is working with ... Patrick Dumont and its other associates to violate Petitioners' rights."

Judge Bill Whitehill dismissed the motion without prejudice and canceled a scheduled Friday arbitration hearing involving Cuban's Radical Hoops and Dumont's ADI.

The dispute is the latest chapter in a strained ownership transition since Cuban sold his majority stake in the Mavericks to Dumont and his mother-in-law, Miriam Adelson, in December 2023. Cuban had said he would retain control of basketball operations following the sale, but that arrangement became publicly strained after the team traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, revealing that Dumont had shifted front-office control to former general manager Nico Harrison.

Cuban addressed his frustration with the sale during a podcast appearance in March.

"I don't regret selling," said Cuban. "I regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I'll leave it at that."

The Mavericks' lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031, and the franchise hopes to move into a new arena ahead of the 2031-32 season. While the option agreements for the Valley View Mall site suggest strong interest in that location, Dumont's lawyers maintain that a final decision has not been made.

"Mr. Cuban has demanded that be involved in the option process," Dumont's lawyers wrote in a July 31 court filing. "Because of the nature of the Valley View Option, there is no current business opportunity to present to Mr. Cuban or the Petitioners. This fact has been communicated to Mr. Cuban."
