Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao is rumored to be taking part in a potential high stakes clash on the Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua undercard but a standout fighter from the Philippines is not exactly on board with this. The combatant in question is Rolando Dy, who collides with Scott McHugh at BKB 60 in Newcastle on October 10th for the former’s BKB super welterweight crown. Dy looks to make his sophomore title defense after cementing himself as the first ever Filipino bare-knuckle champion.

Rumblings emerged regarding a possible fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shakur Stevenson although some reports have came out surrounding a possible mega fight with Stevenson and Devin Haney next. Also, addressing another fellow Filipino fighter, while discussing the previous rumblings of Manny Pacquiao possibly fighting Shakur Stevenson later this year, Dy said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“I think Manny should not take that because it’s a style against his style. Even when he was young, he’s having a hard time fighting guys who run and counter and wait for him. The styles who are perfect for Manny are the Mexican styles. Mexican styles who like to fight his style, right? But you see Manny Pacquiao having a hard time with counter-punchers like the American-style boxers who run and doesn’t like really engage.”

“So I think he will have a hard time against Stevenson because especially he’s very old now. I mean, for a boxer, he’s very old. He’s like 47, 48 like that, right? So, I think he should not take that because Stevenson is very young and he’s in his prime. Style-wise, I think Manny will have a hard time against him, and it will just affect his legacy. Stevenson will just brag that he beat Manny Pacquiao. That’s still Manny Pacquiao, even he’s old.”

Manny Pacquiao should take notes from Floyd Mayweather, per Rolando Dy

Further expressing himself in regards to the recent rumours surrounding ‘Pac-Man’ and the eight division champion’s next in-ring foray, Dy continued [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],

“So that would be very unfair because he’s fighting Manny Pacquiao. But he’s fighting an old Manny Pacquiao, and his style is very, very tailored for the style of Manny Pacquiao. I think Manny should not take that, and I think Stevenson would just want to win against a legend in his old age. So I think Manny should not give that to Stevenson because at the end of the day, even Manny Pacquiao is old. Manny Pacquiao is old.”

“He’s still Manny Pacquiao, and these young fighters will just put that in the record that they beat Manny Pacquiao. Even Manny Pacquiao is old. So I don’t want that to happen. So Manny Pacquiao should just fight like what Floyd Mayweather is doing. Like doing some exhibition fights like that to earn money. He doesn’t need to fight like guys like Stevenson who’s younger in his prime for the safety of money as well. Because he’s getting old.”

“He’s old and this is a young man’s sport. I think as for the love and respect, Manny should just like focus on exhibition fights. Just to make fans like me and all over the world be happy seeing him fight, but still taking care of his health.”
