Manchester United could now spend big to jump ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the race for an impressive Mateus Fernandes alternative.

It's no secret that the Red Devils are after midfielder reinforcements this summer. Ederson is only the start of their rebuild on that front, and several names have entered their thinking ahead of what could be an expensive window for INEOS.

As things stand, Fernandes is the most prominent option. Recent reports have suggested that the West Ham United star is ready to join Man United, but everything depends on whether those at Old Trafford can reach an agreement with the London club.

United must decide whether they believe Fernandes is worth the hefty £85m that West Ham are demanding. It would make him one of their most expensive ever signings, despite the fact that he is now a Championship player.

If it's a price that they're not willing to pay, then the door will open for other options to arrive this summer, including a PSG target who looks destined to leave Real Madrid in the coming months.

If it's not Fernandes, then it could be a real blockbuster option that arrives.

According to Sport in Spain, as relayed by Sport Witness, Man United have launched an approach to sign Eduardo Camavinga.

They would have to jump ahead of PSG, who as of now are the most advanced suitor and preparing to make an offer.

Real Madrid are ready to sell the Frenchman and are keen to ignite a bidding war for his signature.

The good news for interested parties is that the Spanish giants value the midfielder at €60m (£52m) and will not be asking clubs to trigger his stunning €1bn (£865m) release clause.

At a cheaper price than Fernandes, Man United can jump ahead of PSG and land a Champions League winner in Camavinga. It wouldn't be the first time that they've welcomed a Madrid star, either, and it would make perfect sense on paper.

Whilst the Frenchman struggled to match Fernandes for recoveries last season, he was stronger than the £85m man elsewhere and represents an undeniable bargain. Man United should shift their full focus onto the 23-year-old this summer.
