Louis Smolka currently is out of a job, but he’s feeling OK about it.

On Wednesday, Smolka (17-9) confirmed that he’s been released from the UFC a day after algorithm-based Twitter account UFC Roster Watch revealed he was removed from the roster.

“Tbh I’m kinda excited to test free agency,” Smolka tweeted. “The MMA landscape is changing a lot and pretty soon it might be like boxing where huge entities are roaming the globe taking each other out. Sounds like it has the potential to be really lucrative to me.”

This marks the second time that Smolka, 30, has been cut by the UFC. In January 2018, Smolka was released after a four-fight losing streak, which started when his record was 11-1 overall. Smolka, who competed at flyweight, won three in a row on the regional scene before returning to the UFC as a bantamweight in November 2018 when he submitted Su Mudaerji.

In his second UFC stint, Smolka went 3-4. He hadn’t been knocked out in his 10-year career until recent back-to-back losses against Vince Morales in December 2021 and Davey Grant last month.
