It's one apiece for Liverpool and Manchester United in the transfer market right now. Those at Anfield have already welcomed young winger Victor Munoz, whilst the Red Devils are set to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

Once the World Cup is over, both clubs are likely to accelerate any transfer business and that's already seen them join the race for Lucas Herrington. The Australian defender is one of the most in-demand prospects around after the World Cup and the two Premier League rivals have already opened talks.

The World Cup is all about breakout stars and the 2026 tournament is no different. Even after missing his penalty in the shootout against Egypt, Herrington has plenty of admirers who have already made their interest known. Colorado Rapids are now ready to green-light his exit as a result.

Colorado's asking price remains to be seen, but Herrington is unlikely to break the bank at such a young age in the MLS. Instead, Colorado are more concerned about welcoming the defender back on loan for another season.

The teenager played 210 minutes at the World Cup and impressed in that time, making 0.86 tackles and winning three duels per game whilst maintaining an 88.4% pass accuracy.

It's a chance to welcome a rising star and the chance to get one over on a rival club for several Premier League sides. In a hectic race, however, it remains to be seen who comes out on top.

It's some compliment for Herrington that Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as several top European sides, are interested in his signature. The ball is now in his court as he picks his next move.

As reported by TeamTalk, Liverpool and Man United have made contact to sign Herrington and establish their interest with his representatives.

Joining Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and others in the race, the Premier League rivals are battling to sign one of the most in-demand teenagers in Europe this summer.

Colorado Rapids are ready to green-light an exit, but are also keen to loan their young defender back to the club for at least one more season to aid his development.

Liverpool can add a third young defender to Iraola's ranks

When Ibrahima Konate confirmed his departure as a free agent before joining Real Madrid earlier this summer, there was plenty of panic at Anfield. Alongside Virgil van Dijk, they're lacking experience options. But what they do have instead is a number of rising stars, which makes the future look incredibly bright.

Jeremy Jacquet has now arrived. He's just 20 years old. Giovanni Leoni, meanwhile, will be back from an ACL injury in pre-season and is still just 19, himself. Add Herrington to that list and Liverpool suddenly have three defenders with excellent potential waiting to dominate the Premier League.
