Liverpool's priority this summer is to buy forwards, but in the summer of 2017, Jurgen Klopp and FSG made signing Virgil van Dijk their dream goal, and they still squeezed in Mohamed Salah.

Yan Diomande is the top target to make that happen, but just as Van Dijk was once Liverpool's priority, FSG are more than ready to strengthen other positions ahead of a new era at Anfield.

Liverpool in talks to sign bigger talent than Diomande

Liverpool are confident that they can put things to rights ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Signing an elite winger on Diomande's level, with potency and physicality to replace Salah, would be a significant move.

The Athletic's David Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool have established contact with RB Leipzig, but the Bundesliga club do not want to sell. Stil, something needs to be done, and FSG want to wrap this priority signing up quickly so they can move onto other targets.

After all, Liverpool may yet raid another German outfit for a prospect who might be an even bigger talent than Diomande.

According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are still pushing to complete a deal for teenage midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, with fresh talks having taken place in the past 48 hours.

Bayern Munich are Liverpool's closest competitors in the transfer battle for the Hertha Berlin star, who has broken into the Bundesliga 2 outfit's first team this season, but they have eased their interest of late, presenting FSG with a clear shot to bring the prodigious teenager over to Anfield.

Why Eichhorn is a bigger talent than Diomande

Eichhorn might not have the same noise surrounding his name as Diomande does for his exploits in the Bundesliga, but it's worth noting that he is three years the Ivory Coast man's junior, and he is already starting to make waves at top level.

Described as an "insane talent" by analyst Raj Chohan, the deep-lying midfielder is unflappable when presented with high-pressure situations, already with form belief in his technical quality and his skill for defending.

Former Hertha star Toni Leistner has marvelled at the young midfielder's "unbelievable" quality in the engine room, belying his age to put in strong midfield performances for Hertha in Bundesliga 2., where he started 14 times this season.

Liverpool would not integrate Eichhorn into the starting line-up from the off, but he has the talent to play for Iraola's side sooner rather than later, potentially forming a neat adjunct to the Spaniard's title-challenging engine room.

Sir Matt Busby once said that if you're good enough, you're old enough, and it's a mantra that Liverpool appear to have adopted, aiming to replace Salah on the right wing with a forward who is 14 years his junior.

Whether Eichhorn makes an instant impact in the same way that Diomande will be expected to after his big-money arrival remains to be seen, but there's no question that the young German has the potential to become a nucleus in Liverpool's midfield, a long-term number six.

Liverpool's strategy this summer is clear: FSG are hoping to sign young and rising talents who can secure Anfield's future at the top of the European pyramid for many years to come.

It's always easier said than done, but Eichhorn has the potential to be a superstar, and Liverpool can help him develop over the coming years.
