Trent Alexander-Arnold has had a difficult time at Real Madrid since joining the club.

The 27-year-old defender played just over 1100 minutes in the league last season, and he has been linked with a return to the Premier League. talkSPORT pundit Andy Townsend has urged Liverpool to bring him back to the club.

Townsend said on talkSPORT: “He doesn’t need another season like he had last time.

“That would have been a big disappointment to him.

“Secretly, he would have been a little hurt that it never happened, he never really got going and had a few injury issues.

“I think Liverpool should, if they can get any deal done for him on a loan basis for a season, whatever those fees are now, up to £10million for a season, I wouldn’t turn your nose up at that to get that boy back through the door.

“He is top, top drawer.”

There is no doubt that the Premier League needs more creativity and quality going forward. Alexander-Arnold could be an exceptional addition for them. He was a key player for Liverpool during his time at the club, and he helped them win several major trophies. His departure has been a major blow for them, and they have not been able to replace him properly.

Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley have struggled with persistent injury problems, and Liverpool need an upgrade in the right-back department. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to test the resolve of the Spanish club and make a move for him.

The England International will be hoping to play regularly and get back to his best once again. Real Madrid have invested in Denzel Dumfries earlier this summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Dutch International has the opportunity to start ahead of the former Liverpool star.

Meanwhile, reports from AS claim that Jose Mourinho is uninterested in letting Alexander-Arnold leave the club. He believes that the England International could be an important player for Real Madrid in the upcoming campaign. In that case, it will be difficult for Liverpool to get any across the line.
