Following a chastening defeat at Hull City in their Premier League opener, the Red Devils' attack has clicked into gear, due in no small part to the midfield pairing of summer signing Youri Tielemans and youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo's return to the fold was one of the most important changes made by Michael Carrick following his arrival in place of Ruben Amorim, and speaking after the win over Sabah the manager was delighted by his new look group in the centre of the park.

For all the excitement around the revamped midfield and free-flowing football going forward though, the defensive frailties have created concern in equal levels, with the manager rotating who starts alongside Harry Maguire, with each of Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven getting starts already this term.

The 20 year-old started alongside Lisandro, completing 91.8 per cent of his passes, registering two tackles, two interceptions, two blocks and one clearance.

And his defensive partner was more than impressed, telling fans after the game they have a special talent on their hands who is elite in one on one situations.

"Amazing performance from Leny Yoro," the Argentina international said. "He played so well defensively, with the ball, being calm, being composed in every situation, one-vs-one.

"He's the future of this club, honestly. And we have to help him, you know."

United make a quick turnaround following Thursday's 4-0 Champions League win, with Carrick rotating heavily and withdrawing Tielemans at the break. Marcus Rashford was rested as a precaution after feeling discomfort against Everton, while Luke Shaw was held back after not being fully ready.

Bruno Fernandes played the full 90 minutes despite picking up a knock, with Carrick citing limited substitutions as the reason.
