Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayRobert Garcia says Davis reached out to Rodriguez directly, leaving Roach’s rematch hopes hanging in the balance.
Lamont Roach Jr. summed up Gervonta Davis’ pursuit of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez in two words: “It is crazy.” Robert Garcia’s revelation that Davis had already contacted Rodriguez leaves the rematch Roach has chased looking further away than ever.
“It is crazy.”
Those two words, shared by Ring Magazine, reflected much more than the massive division gap separating Davis and Rodriguez. Roach has spent over a year chasing a rematch after fighting Davis to a controversial majority draw in March 2025. Rather than settling that unfinished business, Davis seems focused on a massive crossover fight.
Robert Garcia revealed Davis sent private messages about taking on Rodriguez. Bam accepted the idea immediately, even though he competes down at 118 pounds.
From Tank’s point of view, the lure makes complete sense. A fight against Rodriguez brings blockbuster revenue. Davis remains a premier box office draw, while Bam has built a massive following across the sport. Putting them together creates an easy sell.
Roach has every right to feel annoyed. If anyone deserves a second run at Davis, it is the fighter who pushed him to the brink and left many believing he won the decision. Roach has voiced his desire for that fight repeatedly, yet it never materialized.
Seeing Bam jump to the front of the line stings for any contender. An opportunity Roach targeted for months could end up going to someone fighting four weight classes lighter.
Roach has plenty of reason to be upset, but his focus might be drifting too far ahead.
He faces a brutal test Saturday against William Zepeda in a fight many view as a genuine toss-up. Some oddsmakers even favor Zepeda. That makes it risky to hear Roach discussing Davis, Bam, and Shakur Stevenson before handling the task directly in front of him.
The rematch with Tank is not on the table today. Neither is a clash with Stevenson. Those massive opportunities only become realistic if Roach leaves the ring with a victory.
Until then, Zepeda requires complete focus. Looking past an opponent who throws punches at the relentless pace Zepeda brings is a dangerous game.
