Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe vacant WBC belt will be at stake in Las Vegas following Shakur Stevenson’s departure from the lightweight division
Lamont Roach Jr. and William Zepeda will fight for the vacant WBC lightweight title on August 1 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The winner will become the new WBC champion after Shakur Stevenson moved on from the division.
The fight was announced Wednesday as the main event of TNT Sports and DAZN’s new monthly boxing series, “The Fight.”
Roach heads into the bout after moving through multiple weight classes in recent fights. The Washington, D.C. native fought Gervonta Davis to a majority draw in a bid for the WBA lightweight title before later battling Isaac Cruz to another majority draw at super lightweight.
“This is my fourth consecutive world title fight coming up in a different weight class,” Roach said.
“No doubt, I am bringing boxing back, and I’m coming for the top spot. I want the P4P belt layer.”
Zepeda enters the fight after his unanimous decision loss to Stevenson in a challenge for the WBC lightweight championship. Before that setback, the unbeaten Mexican pressure fighter had built momentum with wins over Tevin Farmer, Maxi Hughes, Joseph Diaz Jr. and Rene Alvarado.
“We’ve been working hard since my last fight,” Zepeda said.
“We’ve been given the opportunity to fight for a world championship, and we’re ready to show the world exactly who ‘El Camarón’ Zepeda is. I hope Lamont comes fully prepared, because we’re going to put on a great show for the fans.”
The 12-round title fight will take place at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Additional undercard bouts are expected to be announced later.
