According to Rob Pelinka, the organization hopes to apply some of the Dodgers’ successful player development and injury management strategies to basketball operations.
“We’re working in collaboration with some of the Dodgers folks to bring in a biomechanics lab,” the Lakers president of basketball operations said.
The initiative is part of a larger organizational transformation under new majority owner Mark Walter, who also owns the Dodgers.
Reports indicate the Lakers want to build a more advanced infrastructure similar to the system that helped Los Angeles become one of baseball’s most successful organizations over the past decade.
