Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of Golden State Warriors training camp because of a "health issue," general manager Mike Dunleavy announced Monday. The starting center's absence is indefinite, and the team is keeping details private.

Porzingis will not travel with the team to Hawaii and will miss at least the first four practices and the preseason opener against the LA Clippers next Sunday in Honolulu.

"I'm not marking him down as being out to start the season or anything like that," said Dunleavy. "He's just not available this week."

The situation has been a recurring one for Porzingis, who missed a combined 90 regular-season games over the past two years. Most of those absences stemmed from a mysterious health problem that followed a prolonged upper respiratory viral illness with the Boston Celtics in late February 2025.

Porzingis missed 10 of his first 11 games after Golden State acquired him from the Atlanta Hawks at last February's deadline, then appeared in 16 of the final 21. In part, that stretch motivated the Warriors to bring him back this summer on a two-year, $40 million deal that guarantees only $3 million in the second season.

Porzingis worked out at the San Francisco facility last week and appeared cleared for camp until Dunleavy received a call Sunday night.

"He's been participating in everything," said Dunleavy. "It just kind of popped up."

Golden State will also open the season without starting wings Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody, who are in the middle stages of rehab from serious knee injuries.

"We feel comfortable with everything [about Porzingis' status]," said Dunleavy. "Disappointed that he won't be out there [when training camp starts Tuesday], but it's early, so don't want to overreact to anything."
