Koby Altman and the Cleveland Cavaliers signed a contract extension after the 2024-25 season when they won 64 games and finished the regular season first in the Eastern Conference, but were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round in a five-game series.

Altman has now signed three contract extensions since he was elevated to the job in 2017 to replace David Griffin.

Altman was responsible for managing the final season of the LeBron James' era and then pivoting to a full rebuild that has been highlighted by acquiring Darius Garland in a draft day trade, Jarrett Allen on the periphery of a blockbuster trade involving James Harden in 2021, selecting Evan Mobley and then trading for Donovan Mitchell in 2023 to accelerate their timeline. The Cavaliers then pivoted away from Garland at the trade deadline by trading for Harden.

Altman was opportunistic in trading for Mitchell as they were not considered to be on his preferred wish list when leaving the Utah Jazz.

"The hardest part," a Cavs team source told ESPN, "is when do you press go? Like, when do you want to really press go with a rebuild or with your assets?' And it was that summer when we saw how good Evan was and how good our core three were: Darius, Jarrett and Evan."
