Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Sacramento Kings’ trade proposal for Jonathan Kuminga has been made public, as reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic, shedding light on stalled negotiations with the Golden State Warriors.
According to Amick, the Kings offered a sign-and-trade deal that would send Malik Monk and a protected 2030 first-round pick to the Warriors in exchange for Kuminga.
The financial terms of the offer included a three-year, $63 million contract for Kuminga, structured to give him a defined role alongside Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray in Sacramento’s starting lineup.
Golden State, however, has pushed back on the pick protections. The Kings’ offer included lottery protection in 2030, with a fallback scenario where Golden State would receive the least favorable of Sacramento’s or San Antonio’s first-round picks in 2031 if the original pick did not convey.
The Warriors have reportedly insisted on receiving an unprotected first-round pick, making that the primary source of the current stalemate.
Kuminga, 22, is a restricted free agent and declined Golden State’s previous offer of a two-year, $45 million deal, which included a team option and no no-trade clause.
He has been clear about his desire for long-term control over his future and is weighing the option of signing his $7.9 million qualifying offer before the October 1 deadline, which would give him a no-trade clause and unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Veteran NBA insider Marc J. Spears recently reported that Kuminga has directly communicated with the Kings and expressed a strong desire to join the franchise.
Per Spears, the former lottery pick met via Zoom with Sacramento general manager Scott Perry, assistant GM B.J. Armstrong, and head coach Doug Christie to discuss his role and expectations.
While the Kings have made it clear they want Kuminga as their starting power forward, Golden State has halted all sign-and-trade talks for the time being, according to reporting from ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater.
The Phoenix Suns have also made a bid for Kuminga but lacked the assets to compete, offering second-round picks and expiring contracts.
