Zach LaVine is one of a few veterans who now seem an odd fit with the rebuilding Sacramento Kings. That's sparked speculation that LaVine and Sacramento could work on a buyout. However, the Kings have no interest in a buyout for LaVine at this time.

The 12-year veteran is on the final season of his contract at $48.9 million. The thought is that Sacramento could get LaVine to reduce that figure, while giving the veteran guard the chance to join a contender. But Sacramento and LaVine are in agreement that a buyout is not how they want to move forward.

The Kings are willing to work with LaVine on finding a new team via trade, as they have been throughout the offseason. Sacramento was willing to work a sign-and-trade prior to LaVine opting in to his deal, but now both sides seem willing to stay together for a while longer.

Contract buyouts are often something that takes place post-trade deadline. This gives the team the opportunity to exhaust all trade possibilities, before they and the player part ways. For now, expect LaVine to open the season with Sacramento.
