Jackson State named Kendrick Perkins as the general manager of the men's basketball team on Friday.

In addition to working in basketball, Perkins will also have a connection with the school's broadcast and journalism program.

"I'm thankful for this opportunity to impact young lives and pour back into my community," Perkins told ESPN.

Jackson State, which went 12-21 last season, haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2007.
