Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayInterim UFC champion Justin Gaethje is pushing his body to its limits to prepare for the expected humid climate outside at UFC White House.
Justin Gaethje will look to add a unified UFC lightweight title to his legendary resume later this month against Ilia Topuria at UFC White House. At a one-of-a-kind event, Topuria and Gaethje will square off on the White House lawn, the first UFC event held outdoors in the modern era.
UFC Freedom 250 features seven marquee fights, including the Topuria vs. Gaethje UFC lightweight title unification bout as the headliner. Topuria and Gaethje have both exuded confidence ahead of fight night, and the two fan favorites are expected to put on a show when they meet in the Octagon.
Topuria and Gaethje will fight outdoors during one of the hottest times of the year in Washington, D.C. As of this writing, temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 80s (Fahrenheit) on the day of the event.
Fighters will have to deal with extreme heat as they square off against some of the toughest fighters on the UFC roster at UFC Freedom 250. To prepare for the intense conditions, Gaethje and his team are going the extra mile to acclimate, including putting his body near the brink in training.
Trevor Wittman: Justin Gaethje getting in sauna in between drills to replicate UFC White House
In a recent video uploaded to Gaethje’s YouTube channel, longtime coach Trevor Wittman explained the extreme methods they’re using to prepare for the hot summer climate.
“How I build the rounds is we do a lot of stations, we’re also involving the sauna in between the workouts now to deal with the heat because we’re gonna be fighting outdoors and out there in Washington D.C., it’s super humid,” Wittman said of Gaethje.
“I’ve been out there a lot, and in the summers it gets really hot. Main card goes on at 8 o’clock, so thank God it’ll be a touch cooler, if we’re gonna be dealing with bugs, so we’re preparing for the unexpected.
“We’ve added sauna, we started off with putting him in the sauna before his workouts, now we’re getting his heart rate up before he goes into the sauna,” Wittman continued on Gaethje. “And when he gets out he’s dealing with these hard workouts with a feeling of heatstroke.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan, who will be cageside at UFC White House, has expressed concerns over the upcoming fight card being in a non-controlled environment. UFC CEO Dana White has also admitted that thunderstorms could jeopardize the event.
