Arsenal have completed one of the biggest moves of the summer after reaching an agreement with Newcastle United for Bruno Guimarães.

The Brazilian will join for a package worth £75 million, giving Mikel Arteta another proven Premier League leader as the Gunners prepare to defend their title.

Arsenal needed an additional midfielder capable of controlling possession, resisting pressure and adding aggression in major matches.

Their window has already strengthened the goalkeeper, defence and attacking positions, but this is the signing that truly raises the level of the starting XI rather than simply improving squad depth.

Romano confirms agreement after lengthy talks

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Newcastle after lengthy negotiations.

Personal terms had been in place since July, with Guimarães making it clear that he wanted to work under Arteta in north London.

The deal gives Arsenal a midfielder who can operate alongside Declan Rice, cover Martin Zubimendi or move into a more advanced role.

That versatility is especially valuable with Rice managing fitness concerns and Arsenal preparing for another demanding campaign across several competitions.

Newcastle’s previous sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon initially strengthened their determination to keep their captain.

However, Arsenal’s persistence and the player’s preference eventually helped move negotiations towards the £75 million agreement.

Guimarães deal could elevate Arteta’s midfield

Guimarães gives Arteta something Arsenal occasionally lacked despite their success: a midfielder who can combine creativity with controlled aggression.

He is comfortable receiving the ball under pressure, breaking lines with his passing and disrupting opposition attacks before they develop.

talkSPORT notes that Arsenal have already added Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis while making Piero Hincapié’s move permanent.

Their business has been selective, but the Brazilian represents the clearest upgrade of the window.

Interest from another major club could have created an auction and pushed Newcastle’s demands above £75 million. Arsenal’s early agreement with the player appears to have prevented that situation and placed them firmly in control.

The fee is high for a 28-year-old, but Arsenal are buying immediate impact rather than potential. Guimarães knows the league, brings leadership and should make Arteta’s midfield more flexible.
