Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has broken his silence following the landmark guilty verdict handed down to Manchester City.
Klopp’s Liverpool finished just one point behind City in two memorable Premier League title races, meaning the German’s name has inevitably been drawn into the discussion over what could happen if any historical honours are affected by subsequent sanctions.
However, Klopp has played down talk of potentially being awarded additional titles and insisted he remains satisfied with what Liverpool achieved on the pitch.
Jurgen Klopp reacts to Manchester City guilty verdict
Speaking about the verdict (quotes via Fabrizio Romano), Klopp made clear that he was not preparing to celebrate any retrospective success.
“I’m far from preparing for a title or anything like that. I’m absolutely fine with what we’ve achieved in Liverpool. We fought hard on the pitch. I can’t say more about that because I don’t know the details.”
The former Liverpool boss also paid tribute to Pep Guardiola and the quality of the Manchester City teams he competed against.
“I can only wait and see. I have big respect for Guardiola and City’s style of football; they played fantastic and were a top-class opponent for us.
“If any sanctions are handed out, I have nothing to do with it; I’ll wait and see.”
Klopp’s response is notably measured given Liverpool’s position as City’s closest challenger during several of the most fiercely contested title races of the era.

Klopp previously joked about Man City title parade
His latest comments also contrast with a lighthearted remark he made shortly after leaving Liverpool in 2024.
Klopp was asked at the time how he would react if Manchester City’s titles were eventually stripped following the Premier League investigation.
His response quickly became memorable:
“If you organise a bus parade, I am in! How long it takes I don’t care!”
The comment was delivered jokingly, but it has inevitably resurfaced following the latest developments surrounding City.
Liverpool lost two Premier League titles to Man City by one point
Few managers pushed Guardiola’s Manchester City as closely as Klopp did during his time at Anfield.
Liverpool accumulated an extraordinary 97 points in 2018/19, only for City to finish one point ahead with 98.
Klopp’s side eventually became Premier League champions the following season after collecting 99 points.
The same agonising scenario then repeated itself in 2021/22, when Liverpool finished with 92 points but again lost the title to City by a single point.
If any of City’s historical Premier League titles were ultimately stripped and subsequently awarded to the runners-up, Liverpool could potentially benefit.
However, there has been no confirmation that Liverpool will be retrospectively awarded any additional titles, and Klopp himself is clearly not getting carried away with the possibility.
For now, the former Reds manager appears content with what his Liverpool side achieved on the pitch, regardless of what the authorities eventually decide.
