Josh Jung embracing his high impact role with Rangers
Last season Jung's struggles stemmed from high strikeout rates, and poor contact hitting that had him sent down to the minors to help reset his game. But his resurgent bat this season has had him completely transform his offensive output.
On May 20 against the Colorado Rockies, Jung's three-hit game helped the Rangers surge to a 4-3 victory. But his go-ahead RBI single in the ninth was what sealed the win.
As a standout hitter this season, Jung has sustained an impressive hard-hit rate of 46.1% as well as a squared-up rate of 33.1%.
He has simplified approach at the plate and is not always looking to hit for power, making his contact hitting a bright spot in his game:
"I'm just trying to make contact. That's kind of been my thing the last couple of weeks is don't go up there and try to overswing... Just go up there and touch it and win at-bats the best I can."
Jung has also resurged by effectively hitting breaking balls (.318 batting average). His breakout success has come from a different approach when faced with breaking balls.
He's focused on anticipating them in good hitting counts instead of impulsively swinging at them. This also has complemented his 15.3% strikeout rate.
