Throughout the New York Yankees' ongoing summer swoon, multiple players have made concerning comments about the team's "lack of focus" and about their personal struggles.

Following the Yankees' 3-0 loss at the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, New York infielder Jose Caballero added his name to that list of players. 

Jose Caballero: Bad stretch of play has weighed heavily on Yankees

Per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, Caballero said after Wednesday's defeat that he and his teammates have been "thinking about this bad stretch" over the past couple of weeks. 

"You think about it too long, and it doesn’t get easier," Caballero added. 

It sounds like the upcoming All-Star break, which gets underway after Sunday's MLB action wraps up, can't come soon enough for the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers went 2-11 from June 25 through July 8. According to StatMuse, they slashed .166/.218/.287 with a .505 team OPS over those 13 contests. 

In Tuesday's loss, the Yankees struck out 17 times as a team and 12 times through five innings. On Wednesday, Yankees batters were responsible for 11 strikeouts. 

Aaron Boone sends message to Jose Caballero, Yankees about mindset

Following Wednesday's game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone made it known he wants Caballero and other players to do all they can to avoid such negative mindsets. 

"Sometimes you get beat up a little bit and you can have that defeated feeling a little bit," Boone explained. "We gotta avoid that because this game waits for no one. It’s hard as can be, and we gotta get over ourselves in that [regard]." 

Boone likely understands that no outside help is coming for the Yankees' lineup anytime soon. Captain Aaron Judge hasn't played since May 31 and will seemingly remain a spectator until at least the middle of August due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side. While the Yankees will likely bolster their roster before the Aug. 3 trade deadline arrives, no big transaction is expected to occur until after the All-Star break. 

"Obviously, offensively, now is a real struggle for us," Boone added. "I keep saying that. It’s no secret. There’s no magic pill. I really feel like the preparation is good. The conversations in the hitting room are the right ones. They’re on point, they’re with the right energy and focus, they’re communicating well like we do when things are easier times for us. I keep saying we gotta get some guys going. That’s the reality, but ultimately, we gotta go do it. I do believe we’ll get through this, but there’s not much more to talk about. We gotta go make some things happen."

The 50-42 Yankees will finish their series at the 54-36 Rays on Thursday afternoon.
