New York Knicks guard Jose Alvarado has received a brief extension on his player option deadline, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Sources told Fischer that Alvarado and the Knicks agreed to move the decision date on his $4.5 million player option from June 22 to June 26, giving both sides additional time as New York navigates a busy week leading up to the NBA Draft.

According to Fischer, the Knicks have been active in trade discussions involving their draft assets, particularly the 24th and 31st overall picks.

New York also owns the No. 55 selection in the 2026 draft.

Alvarado joined the Knicks at the trade deadline after spending the first four-plus seasons of his career with the Pelicans.

The former undrafted guard averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steal across 69 regular-season games between New Orleans and New York.

Although his playoff role was limited, Alvarado delivered several important moments during the Knicks’ Finals run, including an eight-point fourth quarter in Game 4 as New York rallied from a 29-point deficit for a memorable victory.

If Alvarado chooses to decline his player option, he would become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
