Dave Roberts stood in Dodger Stadium this week, as the Dodgers celebrated their second straight World Series title, and said he’d just spoken to his friend Pat Riley, who famously coined the phrase “three-peat” during his days with the Lakers.

“He gave me the OK to use this phrase,” the Dodgers manager said in front of the roaring crowd. “Pat Riley, what’s better than two? Three! Three-peat!”

It’s something that hasn’t been done in the majors since Joe Torre and the Yankees won three in a row from 1998-2000.

Roberts’ Dodgers are the first team in MLB to even win back-to-back championships since the Yankees did it a quarter century ago.
