Just like when the Saudi PIF took charge at Newcastle United, patience will need to be shown by the supporters if the club are to be successful in the near future.

The recent summer window has seen a huge change in playing and managerial staff, which could take time to see the best performance being displayed in the Premier League.

Matthias Jaissle will want to get his young squad into a competitive position, but given the average age of the additions being just 21, it’s certain the hierarchy are building for the future.

Speaking of the future, it’s vital that one player is not part of the new manager’s plans and is moved on at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Why time should be up for Jacob Murphy at Newcastle

Given the recent recruitment drive at Newcastle, it’s clear the board are wanting to reduce the age of the senior squad - which should have seen a departure for Jacob Murphy take place.

The 31-year-old has been at St James’ Park since the summer of 2017 and was an influential part of the squad that claimed Carabao Cup glory in the 2024/25 campaign.

However, despite having just a year left on his deal, the Magpies board rejected two separate offers from Nottingham Forest - the latest totalling around £15m.

As a result, it could see the winger depart on a free transfer during next summer’s window, but it’s certainly the right time to allow the forward to move on to pastures new.

Murphy has failed to start any of the club’s first three games of the new league season, with his only starts coming in the two Carabao Cup clashes with West Brom and Millwall.

He’s failed to register a single goal or an assist in either of the two aforementioned matches, with Jaissle clearly preferring the likes of Anthony Elanga ahead of the Englishman.

Whilst he’s played a vital part in the Magpies’ ability to get to this point, it’s clear the player is no longer at the level needed if the new manager is to secure success.

Newcastle's wildcard option to replace Jacob Murphy

The Newcastle board spent a pretty penny on bolstering the attacking department this summer, with over £100m worth of reinforcements arriving for Jaissle’s maiden campaign at the helm.

Bazoumana Toure and Matias Fernandez-Pardo both completed their respective moves to Tyneside, but both players are more suited to featuring off the left-hand side.

As a result, the club will certainly be on the hunt for added reinforcements in the near future, but the club may already have a player in their ranks who could save them millions.

Winger Seung-soo Park arrived from South Korean side Suwon Bluewings last July and originally linked up with the Magpies academy setup for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 19-year-old, who can feature off either flank, has already created history, subsequently setting the record for the youngest ever goal scorer in South Korean football history at just 17.

Whilst he’s had to hide his time since moving to Tyneside last summer, he’s become a key member for the U21 side during the last 12 months - which could lead to a senior call-up.

Park featured in 16 games for such a side during the 2025/26 Premier League 2 campaign, subsequently ending the season with five combined goal contributions.

The aforementioned was the joint second-highest of any player in the squad, subsequently highlighting his quality and ability to make the desired impact in the final third.

Korean writer Lee Seung-mo has previously heaped praise on the teenage talent, stating: “Park has said that Mbappe is his role model and favourite player.

“He likes Mbappe's playing style, speed and skills, wants to play with him and learn everything from him in the future. Therefore, it's natural that his playing style is similar to Mbappe. He's quick and possesses great dribbling skills.”

Such a comparison will no doubt excite the Magpies faithful, especially considering the Real Madrid star has netted 30+ goals across all competitions in each of the last eight years.

Whilst Park has a long way to go before reaching such levels, the current season could be used as a development year to allow him to fill the void left by Murphy next season.

The 31-year-old could well be entering his final year at Tyneside, and the South Korean star could well prove to be the perfect option to fill his boots within Jaissle’s ranks next term.
