Former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena addressed his supporters after a TKO loss to Carlos Prates at UFC Perth.

For the first time in his UFC career, former welterweight titleholder Jack Della Maddalena is on a losing skid after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Carlos Prates at UFC Perth earlier this month. It marked Maddalena’s return to title contention after losing the welterweight belt to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 in November.

In a highly-anticipated matchup, Maddalena looked outclassed and outmatched against the streaking Prates on home soil. Prates dismantled Maddalena with leg kicks and elbow strikes to leave the former champion a bloody mess.

In the immediate aftermath of UFC Perth, Maddalena’s social media presence was dormant, and the former champion didn’t speak with media after the event. 11 days after the fight, Maddalena took to Instagram to issue his first public remarks since the Prates fight.

In a recent Instagram post, Maddalena made his first social media remarks after his knockout defeat at UFC Perth.

“Thanks for all the love and support. I could not be prouder to represent my gym, my family, my city and country,” Maddalena said.

“Not the desired result this time around but it was in line with the desired challenge; fighting the most vicious and toughest opponents.”

Before Maddalena’s back-to-back losses, Maddalena was unbeaten in his UFC career with recent wins over Gilbert Burns, Kevin Holland, and Belal Muhammad. Maddalena won the UFC welterweight title by outpointing Muhammad by unanimous decision at UFC 315 last year.

Maddalena is expected to return to the Octagon later this year as he looks to get back into the mix at 170 pounds. As Makhachev prepares to defend the belt against Prates, Ian Machado Garry, or Michael Morales, Maddalena will look to secure an eventual rematch against the champion.
