Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a Cubs-Padres game with the family. Chicago, in the moist depths of a heat wave, proved an inhospitable place for baseball fans. For the sluggers? It was closer to heaven. The Cubs hit a franchise record-tying eight home runs, ultimately taking the win 23-3 after a heroic two innings on the mound by the Padres starting catcher, Rodolfo Durán.

But however hot the bats were, it was still very literally hot otside. It was 95 degrees Farenheit, with a “feels like” temperature of 108 degrees. As soon as the fourth inning, fans began to abandon the sunlight grandstands for the shade of the concourse.
