Former UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is the latest to taunt Ilia Topuria following the latter’s stunning loss at the White House.

For the first time in his otherwise legendary UFC career, Ilia Topuria left the Octagon without his hand raised, as he lost his lightweight belt to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250. It was a shocking end to a star-studded card on the White House lawn, capped off by an instant classic between Topuria and Gaethje before Topuria’s corner opted to stop the fight just before Round 5.

After an undefeated run in the Octagon, including a UFC lightweight title win last year, Topuria will look to bounce back from his first career setback after UFC Freedom 250. Many of Topuria’s former foes, including one surprising defense from Conor McGregor, have weighed in on the historic bout.

Before Topuria vs. Gaethje was solidified for UFC Freedom 250, the UFC matchmakers allegedly tried to book Topuria against UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev on the White House lawn. According to Topuria, Makhachev withdrew from contract talks, while Makhachev accused Topuria of asking for too much money to fight him.

After months of dealing with Topuria’s brashness and knockout predictions, Makhachev got the last laugh after watching UFC Freedom 250.

In a recent tweet, Makhachev reacted to Topuria’s shocking loss at UFC Freedom 250.

“He who exalts himself will be humbled!” Makhachev tweeted.

“There are levels in this game! Congratulations Justin, you deserve this belt more than anyone!”

One hour later, Makhachev continued to berate Topuria in a follow-up tweet and accused him of quitting on the stool.

“To quit in the biggest fight of your career – is something not everybody can do. Real Le Layenda,” Makhachev said of Topuria.

As of this writing, Topuria hasn’t responded to Makhachev’s tweets. He recently released his first social media statement since UFC Freedom 250 and congratulated Gaethje for the victory.

While the Makhachev vs. Topuria super fight is indefinitely on hold, there remains little love between the two UFC stars. If Topuria reclaims the UFC lightweight throne, don’t be surprised if the matchmakers revisit the Makhachev showdown.
