Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayKing Green is not a fan of how Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev handle business inside the Octagon.
Green is known for his willingness to enter the fire in his UFC bouts, and it has earned him four “Fight of the Night” bonuses and three “Performance of the Night” bonuses, which becomes four if you include his lone “Submission of the Night.” At times, Green’s style has cost him with KO losses to the likes of Mauricio Ruffy and Jalin Turner, but he’s been able to bounce back from defeat several times.
Green’s own style has led him to detest fights involving Makhachev and Chimaev. He explained why during an appearance on “Love & War” (via MMAFighting).
“I get into it a lot with the wrestlers, like the Russian guys,” Green said. “I’m trying to explain to them, they’re competitors. They’re not making art.
“They’re not trying to make something timeless that this is a great fight that I actually want to go back and watch later on. … I feel like Chimaev, Islam’s last fights, those were some of the most horrible title fights I’ve ever seen.”
Green then recalled a disagreement he had with longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan about fighting styles.
“I had this big-ass argument with Joe [Rogan], Joe’s like, ‘I like the grappling and stuff,’” Green said. “Yeah, I get that, there’s nothing wrong with those things, but personally, I never wrestled. I never really wrestled. I can wrestle, the first thing I did, my base is wrestling. But I understood that the audience isn’t looking for that. The audience is looking for the knockouts, those are the things that they want to see, so we have to put those things away.”
Green is currently in the midst of a three-fight winning streak. He last stepped inside the Octagon on May 9, earning a first-round submission finish over Jeremy Stephens. His other wins in his current streak include a second-round TKO finish over Daniel Zellhuber, and a split decision win over Lance Gibson Jr.
Does King Green have a point about boring fighting styles in UFC, or is he wrong given the success the likes of Islam Makhachev have had? Drop a comment below.
