While Trea Turner's overall performance for the Philadelphia Phillies this season has been an unpleasant surprise to say the least his recent turnaround could be a positive sign of him making a comeback. 

Across his first 67 games his discouraging slump had him slashing .222/.272/.335 along with seven home runs, 21 RBI, and a career low OPS+ of 69. But as of late, he's scored 17 of the last 21 times he has been on base with consistent offense in 7 of his last 9 games. 

As well, across his last 14 games he is batting .350 (21-for-60) with four doubles, three home runs and a .948 OPS. His recent power surge had him hit home runs in three consecutive games against the Pittsburgh Pirates ( June 30- July 2). The 33-year-old is very aware of his struggles but feels like his recent success has been accomplished through his disciplined approach. 

“I’m not missing mistakes,” Turner said. “I feel like I’m getting into some better counts. I feel like I’m driving off-speed pitches a little better. And then just using the whole field, really. I just feel good again.”

Despite his recent success, the Phillies shortstop is aware that his season-long numbers will still not reflect his best efforts overall.   “They're not going to look good, said Turner, probably no matter what I do for awhile.”

Homering off of 2025 NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes is certainly an encouraging start. But Turner still only holds a .239 batting average with a .653 OPS, which means it will take another solid hot stretch to boost those stats. But if he continues to grind he could continue to showcase his comeback and return to form. 

His biggest weakness has been chasing breaking balls and off-speed pitches on the outside corner, which is why his chase rate has increased from 31.2 % from 2025 to 36% this season. 

But a mechanical adjustment at the plate has allowed him to break out of his slump. He has ditched the leg kick, which has allowed him to make smarter swing decisions and stay back on the ball.
