Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini has hinted that he might like to challenge himself by playing abroad in the future amid links with Chelsea.

The talented 22-year-old has impressed in Italian football and that’s inevitably led to transfer speculation as bigger clubs from elsewhere could be tempted to snap him up.

Chelsea are one of the main names to be linked, with the Blues looking in need of more options in defence after an unconvincing start to the season.

TEAMtalk recently linked Chelsea with Scalvini and he’s now been quoted by Football Italia as saying he’d like to experience the challenge of playing abroad at some point in his career, even if he’s happy at Atalanta for now.

Speaking during a press conference with the Italian national team, Scalvini discussed his current situation and explained why he’s happy to continue with Atalanta for a bit longer.

“I’ve always been there, and I’ve extended because I’ve always felt good,” he said.

“At the same time, I understand those who change clubs and go abroad. One day I’d like to do that to learn new things and new concepts, but I’m already doing it at Atalanta.”

So, it’s fair to say this doesn’t look like it’s going to be anything that becomes particularly concrete imminently, but it’s surely going to be one to watch in the years to come.

Chelsea are known for recruiting some of the world’s best young players, and Scalvini certainly fits into their transfer strategy.

The Italy international looks like he has a big future in the game, and perhaps once he gains a bit more experience he’ll be ready for a move to Stamford Bridge in the next year or two.
