West Bromwich Albion have just over two weeks to go before they have to travel to Norfolk to take on Norwich City in the opening game of the Championship season.

There has already been plenty of change within the squad since James Morrison took the reins on a permanent basis, with Jimmy Jay Morgan, Barney Stewart, and Nolan Galves all joining to bolster the first-team.

Josh Maja, Daryl Dike, and Karlan Grant have also all departed from The Hawthorns as free agents after their respective contracts expired at the start of this month.

There may be more departures from the club before the summer transfer window slams shut at the start of September, though, and one player whose future still seems up in the air is Alex Mowatt.

It was reported earlier this summer that there is significant interest from other teams in the Championship in the experienced central midfielder, although no official offers have been disclosed as yet.

The 31-year-old star, who scored one goal in the league last season, only has 12 months left on his current contract with the club and will be 32 by the end of the campaign.

West Brom may decide that to take this final opportunity to recoup a transfer fee for the midfielder, given the 'significant' interest in his services, rather than run the risk of him following Grant, Dike, and Maja in leaving for nothing.

The veteran star was solid enough in the Championship for the Baggies last term, starting the majority of their matches, but he was not outstanding offensively or defensively.

Mowatt is not irreplaceable and that could factor into a decision to move on from the Englishman, as they could cash in on him after bringing in a new player in his position.

In fact, the club are currently looking at a potential signing who could arrive at The Hawthorns as an upgrade on what the ex-Leeds man currently offers.

West Brom Extra reports that West Bromwich Albion are interested in a deal to sign SK Brann central midfielder Felix Horn Myhre in the summer transfer window.

The Baggies are said to be preparing an official offer to sign the 27-year-old talent from the Norwegian side to bolster Morrison's options in the middle of the park.

Aune Heggebo, who played with Myhre at Brann, could play a role in helping the club to win the race for the midfield star, as they already have a connection.

The Norway international, who has also played with ex-Baggies star Torbjorn Heggem at international level, has been touted at a fee of around £2.5m amid interest from Spanish side Elche.

West Brom must now pay the money required, whether that is £2.5m or closer to £3m, to bring the star to The Hawthorns as a better option than Mowatt.

Myhre has racked up six goals and four assists in his last 38 league appearances for the Norwegian outfit, whilst he averaged plenty of tackles and interceptions across the 2025 campaign last year.

Mowatt, meanwhile, only produced five goal contributions in 39 league matches for West Brom in the 2025/26 campaign, which suggests that the Norway international has the potential to offer more of a threat at the top end of the pitch.

The 27-year-old talent's 4.8 and 4.4 duels won per game across the last two Eliteserien seasons also suggest that he has the defensive nous to be better than Mowatt out of possession.

In the 2025/26 season, the English veteran only won three duels per game, almost two fewer than Myhre won per match in 2025, which suggests that he is not as combative or as strong defensively.

That means, overall, that the Brann maestro has the quality to be an instant upgrade on Mowatt for Morrison by offering more to the team offensively and defensively in the number eight role, which is why this could be a fantastic signing for the club.

If the Baggies can strike an agreement with the Norwegian club to bring the midfielder to The Hawthorns, it could open the door for fellow Championship teams to pursue a deal for Mowatt.
