During the last two seasons, Leeds United’s ability to progress from Championship title winners to European hopefuls has largely been down to shrewd business in the transfer market.

The 49ers have invested around £180m into the squad since promotion at the end of the 2024/25 campaign to hand Daniel Farke the tools needed for success in the Premier League.

With his side losing just five top-flight encounters throughout the entirety of the current calendar year, it’s safe to say that the investment has worked wonders.

However, one player who was part of the Championship-winning squad has started to develop into a top-level talent and is now enjoying the best period of his career.

Why Bogle is becoming Farke's most important player

As part of the club’s efforts to secure promotion from the Championship, Leeds forked out a reported £5m to secure the signature of right-back Jayden Bogle in 2024.

His experience in such a division was seen as a huge factor in the deal, but there’s no denying the Englishman has since exceeded all expectations at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old has missed just four league games across the last two seasons, with Farke trusting him to start every game of the 2026/27 campaign to date.

The manager’s decision to switch to a back-three system has allowed the former Sheffield United man to operate in a more advanced position - subsequently allowing him to reach the next level in his career.

Bogle currently ranks in the top 7% of all defenders in the Premier League this season for shots taken per 90, whilst also winning more fouls than 91% of players in his position.

His marauding nature from his wing-back role has handed the Whites another impressive option in attacking areas and allowed the club to start the new season unbeaten.

As a result of his tremendous form, Bogle has been subject to calls from many supporters, claiming that he should now be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s England national team setup.

Meet the Leeds wonderkid who could be the next Bogle

After securing promotion, very few Leeds supporters would have predicted Bogle to be one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, but he’s certainly managed to prove people wrong.

His performances have seen him become a key member within the manager’s current system, which has freed him up to become a bigger threat in transition.

Any potential success in the Premier League this season could well hinge on the 26-year-old’s fitness and ability to emulate his early campaign form in the months ahead.

No other player in Farke’s squad is able to emulate such quality at both ends, which could see academy star Freddie Lane be handed a chance to star in the senior ranks.

The 19-year-old may be an unknown quantity to many supporters at Elland Road, but he’s a talent who deserves a whole heap of praise and recognition for his rapid rise in Yorkshire.

He’s been a key member of the U18 setup over recent years, but has been handed a platform to showcase his talents in the U21 squad over the last few months.

Such a call has allowed the wing-back to catch the eye within the youth setup - subsequently registering four goals and an assist during his first nine matches this term.

The aforementioned figure showcases his ability to drive forward and find himself in the right positions in attacking areas - just as Bogle has managed to do in recent times at Elland Road.

As for Lane, his underlying stats from the current season showcase his talent, with the teenager a player who’s more than capable of making the jump to senior football.

The wing-back has ranked in the top 12% of all players in the Premier League 2 this season for dribbles completed - allowing him to pick out a teammate with 33% of his crosses.

The aforementioned figures further reaffirm his talent within attacking areas, but he’s also been able to showcase his skillset within the defensive third of the pitch.

Lane has ranked in the top 5% for both defensive contributions and interceptions made per 90 throughout 2026/27 - which could make him a huge asset for Farke in the near future.

The numbers highlight how he can emulate Bogle’s success under the German boss, with the teenager able to star at both ends of the pitch under his guidance.

Whilst expectations will need to be managed due to his tender age, it’s safe to say Lane is a player who needs more recognition for his efforts in the academy setup.

He’s a player who can ultimately become a constant performer in the senior ranks, but it’s crucial the staff in Yorkshire ensure the youngster remains on his current upward trajectory.
