The Saudi crowd voiced its frustration after a dull title fight that left fresh questions over Sheeraz’s standing among the division’s leading contenders.

Hamzah Sheeraz retained his title with a majority decision over Simon Zachenhuber after a boring 12-round fight that ended with boos around the arena. The judges returned scores of 114-114, 115-113 and 116-112, rewarding Sheeraz after one of the toughest nights of his career.

Sheeraz opened behind his reach and jab, throwing combinations while Zachenhuber targeted the body and looked to work his way inside. The early rounds were fought at a cautious pace, with neither man willing to overcommit.

As the fight settled, Sheeraz found more success downstairs. He dug left hooks into the body, mixed in uppercuts, and landed the cleaner single shots. Zachenhuber answered by increasing his work rate, pumping the jab and putting combinations together whenever Sheeraz paused.

By the middle rounds, Sheeraz appeared to be searching for one decisive punch rather than building heavy attacks. The commentary team noted he may have injured his hand early in the fight, which could have explained his reluctance to let his hands go.

Zachenhuber continued pressing, throwing more punches and forcing the pace. He landed several combinations and refused to fade, making every round competitive despite absorbing the heavier individual shots from Sheeraz.

The final round summed up the fight. Zachenhuber stayed busy with jabs, combinations, and body work, while Sheeraz answered with hooks and single jabs in another close session.

When the scorecards were announced, Sheeraz retained his unbeaten record with a majority decision, though one judge had it even.

It was not the dominant performance many expected from the British star. Instead, it was a close, tactical contest that failed to ignite the crowd, with boos echoing around the arena after the final bell.

The victory keeps Sheeraz moving forward, but it is unlikely to quiet the debate surrounding him. Against a determined Zachenhuber, he landed the cleaner punches, yet he never separated himself over twelve rounds.

The result raises an obvious question: Is Hamzah Sheeraz being rated higher than his recent performances justify? Saturday’s showing did little to strengthen his case. It was enough to win on the scorecards, but not enough to silence the growing skepticism.
