The Cleveland Guardians' youth movement is in full force. Another potential building block for the future is about to get his chance.

Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reported that the Guardians are promoting catching prospect Cooper Ingle from Triple-A. He is making his debut as the Guardians designated hitter and batting fifth in their lineup on Friday.

Ranked as the Guardians' third-best prospect and the 68th-best prospect in baseball, per MLB.com, Ingle has an interesting skill set for a catcher. He is lauded for his excellent batting eye and plate discipline, waiting for pitches he can drive while making consistent contact. Ingle has drawn more walks than he has struck out between 2023 and 2025, keeping that impressive discipline as he has risen through the Guardians system.

Ingle's performance at Triple-A shows that he has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues. He posted a .284/.416/.551 batting line in his 221 plate appearances in Columbus, hitting 12 homers and seven doubles. Ingle had started to see time in left field over the past few weeks as Cleveland looked for additional avenues to get him into their lineup.

There are some red flags with Ingle. He is considered to be a good receiver behind the dish, but his agility and framing have regressed. He has fringy arm strength for a catcher, although his quick release does mitigate that issue to a degree. 

Ingle will have the perfect catchers to learn from at the major league level. Patrick Bailey and Austin Hedges are both considered excellent defensive backstops and could make a tremendous impact on their defensive development. 

The Guardians have not been shy about calling up their top prospects in an attempt to improve their lineup. Infielders Travis Bazzana and Juan Brito, and outfielders Chase DeLauter and Kahlil Watson, have received opportunities to establish themselves as potential building blocks. Now it is Ingle's turn to prove he can be a part of their present and future.
