Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayGareth A. Davies believes Tyson Fury’s clash with Anthony Joshua can pull around 30 million viewers on Netflix, placing the British heavyweight event within range of Canelo Alvarez against Terence Crawford.
The estimate came during a comparison with the platform’s previous boxing broadcasts. He placed Fury-Joshua well below Jake Paul against Mike Tyson but saw enough global recognition to produce a large audience.
“I’m plucking a figure here, Ade, and I want yours as well. I’m thinking the Canelo-Crawford number. What was that, 30 million? I think it’s around that 30 million. Maybe they pick up two million new audience, three million new audience,” he said on talkSPORT Boxing.
Part of that confidence comes from Fury’s visibility through Netflix’s At Home with the Furys series. The program introduced him to subscribers outside boxing circles, giving the platform a recognizable personality to promote alongside Joshua.
His target sits close to the figures Netflix released for Canelo-Crawford. The bout averaged 36.6 million global viewers from the opening bell through the final round, rising to 41.4 million under the Live+1 measurement.
Paul-Tyson operated on an entirely different scale, averaging an estimated 108 million live viewers and peaking at 65 million concurrent streams. Fury-Joshua will struggle to approach those totals because it lacks the curiosity of a 58-year-old Tyson returning to face an internet celebrity.
Reaching 30 million would still represent a major success. Both heavyweights remain household names in Britain after ten years of buildup. The harder task is attracting a large American audience, where neither boxer commands Canelo’s devoted following.
A New York venue with a Friday-night start would give Netflix ideal American viewing hours. British supporters would receive an overnight broadcast instead of the domestic stadium event originally discussed.
The matchup has passed its prime, yet Davies believes an official announcement will increase public interest immediately. Once organizers confirm the date and venue, a decade of collapsed negotiations becomes the promotional hook instead of another reason to ignore the fight.
