Justin Barcia (51) celebrates after winning Saturday’s 450 MotoFest class.
Glen Helen Raceway’s Dr. Bud Feldkamp put up $100,000 for the 2026 MotoFest event. It was designed a year ago to help privateers earn some extra cash before the 2026 AMA Pala National on May 30. Glen Helen hosted three different Pro races—The $30,000 Stopwatch National on Friday and the $35,000 250 MotoFest paired with the $35,000 450 MotoFest event on Saturday. Simple math makes those purses add up to $100,000 in cash. But, those weren’t the only things happening at Glen Helen is past weekend.
The riders get to the Talladega first turn at 70 mph, but since the turn is banked at 45-degrees and has a 180-degree arc, it offers lots of room for riders to go high or low.
(1) Glen Helen reworked their former AMA National track with an unbelieveable amount of fresh dirt and a Dennis Stapleton designed layout (featuring all of the famous Glen Helen obstacles—including the Talladega first turn, the rapid fire sequence of big uphills combined with equally steep Mt. Saint Helen downhill.
(2) Between MotoFest Pro motocross races, the National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) held cross-country races on Saturday and Sunday (with a full complement of classes).
The Troy Lee Ducati team of Dylan Ferrandis (14) and Justin Barcia had a good weekend, although both of the Ducati riders threw in crashes—with Ferrandis pulling out of the races and not showing up on Saturday after winning the first 450 “Stopwatch National” moto on Friday.
Justin Barcia, who missed most of the 2026 Supercross series after his violent Anaheim 1 crash, said that he was using the MotoFest for some much needed outdoor testing.
(3) The fastest lap times were a tick under 2 minutes and 40 seconds for the 450 class, while the 250 class was only one second off the 450 times. Those lap times are very close to the times clocked at the Glen Helen Nationals before MX Sports mandated two-minute lap times (which Glen Helen never adhered to because some sections of the Glen Helen National track (which was very similar to the new MotoFest track) were across the canyon and over a ridge. Plus, isn’t a 30-minute plus two lap moto over after 30 minutes plus two laps? Why were the track lap times shortened?
(4) The bowl section of the Glen Helen layout featured a spectacular jump from the top of the Saddleback hump down to the ground level before sailing over the Hip Jump on the way to the steeply banked Velodrome turn. After the Velodrome turn came a section of rolling whoops —that could be singled, doubled or, in the case of Justin Barcia, tripled.
(5) The track workers spent nine days hauling dirt onto the track to build new jumps and, most significantly, to coat the complete track with deep loam. If you want to see all these changes, YouTube is full of MotoFest videos, so you can see the track.
Colt Nichols (45) won Friday’s “Stopwatch National” even though Justin Barcia (51) and Dylan Ferrandis each won a moto, but Nichols 2-2 score beat out Justin Barcia’s 7-1 and Ferrandis 1-DNF. Last year, Colt won $20,000; this year, he won $10,000 for the Stopwatch race and $6,000 for a second in the MotoFest 450 class.
The combined 250/450 classes resulted in some spirited races with 250 racers going flat out to try to run down 450 racers. Here, Lux Turner (43) chases Josh Mosiman (171). Lux was sixth overall, while Josh was eighth overall.
Phil Nicoletti went 17-11 in the combined “Stopwatch National,” but came back the next day to score a seventh overall in the 450 MotoFest class.
