Shortly after what became a disastrous season for the New York Mets ended with a 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon, Mets infielder Bo Bichette said that the team was "definitely closer" and that he felt "caring about each other more definitely helps everybody go out there and play better."

Following the Mets' defeat that dropped the team to 74-88 for the campaign, shortstop Francisco Lindor insisted that the clubhouse will be a "non-issue" for the franchise during the upcoming offseason.

Mets clubhouse "is in great shape" after franchise-altering offseason

"I think the clubhouse is in great shape," Lindor explained, per Ben Krimmel of SNY. "I don't think we should be hearing anything about it in the offseason because I feel like the clubhouse is great. Everybody here is in a really good spot. We are all pulling for each other, we all care for each other, and at the end of the day, this is about playing for each other and growing and wanting the best for each other so we can win. It shouldn't be an issue."

Following the summer collapse of the 2025 Mets, team president of baseball operations David Stearns controversially dismantled the core of the club's roster via decisions that included moving on from fan favorites such as outfielder Brandon Nimmo and slugger Pete Alonso, both homegrown talents. Numerous stories shared throughout the past 10 months or so have suggested that an alleged rift in the clubhouse resulted in Stearns' desire to make massive changes to the roster.

Additionally, questions about the relationship between Lindor and outfielder Juan Soto repeatedly generated headlines throughout the first half of 2026. Those two seem to now be on the same page, and they shared an embrace after Lindor hit his 300th career home run on Sunday afternoon.

Juan Soto: Mets "have everything that we need" to turn things around next season

"I think we got a lot of really good veteran players that have played this game for a long time and it's great, so far so good," Soto added about the Mets clubhouse. "I think we have everything that we need. Just gotta add a couple pieces in the offseason, and I think it's gonna be even better for the team."

One can only guess what the Mets roster will look like whenever the expected lockout comes to an end. If nothing else, Soto and Lindor seem confident the overall state of the Mets is better now than it was on Oct. 1, 2025.
