Floyd Mayweather had been expected to make his professional comeback against Manny Pacquiao later this year, but following the postponement of the event, ‘TBE’ may need to look elsewhere and his former protégé has thrown his name into the mix. 

Mayweather has been linked to a shocking rematch with Manny Pacquiao throughout 2026, with a date and location of Saturday, September 12 at The Sphere is Las Vegas having previously been unveiled by Netflix.

However, ongoing legal issues have intervened and caused hopes of witnessing the clash to lessen, with Pacquiao now being mentioned for alternate fights – which could see him break his own record as the oldest welterweight world champion in the history of the sport.

As a result, ‘Pac-Man’ could opt to take on a different and more reliable opponent in order to reduce his inactivity and possibly tee up the postponed Mayweather rematch for 2027, where a title could then potentially be up for grabs.

Should that happen, Mayweather may also look to shake off some ring rust ahead of the opportunity and Gervonta Davis, who he used to promote, has now told him to ‘suit up’ in a social media post, as per Ring Magazine.

“I’ll take Floyd too. Tell ‘em to suit up.”

Mayweather began working with Davis back in 2015, guiding him towards multiple world titles, whilst the pair also competed together on the same card back in August 2017, in what would prove to be Mayweather’s final appearance as a professional.

They continued to work together until 2022 when they parted ways, and since then it has been a very public fallout between the pair, leading to the callout from ‘Tank.’

It had been understood that Davis would be sidelined until early 2027 but ‘Tank’ has since denied those claims, opening the door to a return later this year, where he would hope to secure a first professional victory since he knocked out Frank Martin in June 2024.
