Germany international Florian Wirtz has shed light on the decisive influence that Arne Slot, Liverpool’s newly-appointed head coach, had on convincing him to complete a sensational move to Anfield this summer.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents, has opened up about the early conversations that proved crucial in shaping his decision.

Speaking after signing his long-term contract with Liverpool, Wirtz praised Slot’s vision and tactical clarity, which immediately resonated with him

Wirtz explains reason behind Liverpool move

As reported by transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Wirtz said:

“I can remember the first time, he already showed me some scenes of how we want to play and how I could fit in the team”.

“I just could imagine it good to be in the team and to make it better”.

Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp after a remarkable tenure, is known for his progressive, possession-based style of football.

He managed to make Liverpool successful in his very first season in charge of the club and guided the Reds to a famous Premier League title win.

Wirtz, who had long been linked with elite clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, chose Liverpool after being sold on Slot’s project.

With Wirtz on board, Liverpool fans will be eager to see how this marquee addition transforms their midfield in the coming seasons.

The signing of the German midfielder shows Liverpool’s intent and ambition in the transfer market.

Despite winning the Premier League, they have acted decisively in the market and made their team even stronger for next season.

The signing of Wirtz is not the only business they have done this summer. Wirtz is joined by his former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield, who joins the club as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.

The signing of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is soon to follow with Reds also focusing on their defensive depth.

They are also expected to sign a new striker this summer with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike firmly on their radar.
