At a certain point, the one eye I’m keeping on the majors has to wander back over to the prospect side. We’re past the point where I can procrastinate on no-longer-small-sample-size breakouts from the Caleb Bonemers and Franklin Ariases of the world. And we’re nearing the point where I will have to more thoroughly start sketching out the midseason 50. Major-league games will still be there as second-screen background noise—especially whenever the Tigers are playing a getaway day game with Keider Montero on the mound—but my main focus turns to the next round of player evaluations. Of course one of the main tasks in front of me will be to find a new no. 1 prospect, as Konnor Griffin is due to tick over 130 at-bats the same day you read this. So we’d be remiss to not check in on him like we have the other top prospects that have made their major-league debuts in 2026.
Konnor Griffin, SS, Pittsburgh Pirates
