Orgo-Life the new way to the future

As promised last Thursday, the first Feature Focus of this week highlights a Member-exclusive feature of FanGraphs: dashboard customization. The dashboard is the collection of cards you see when you first open a player page, as well as the first stats table.

The default dashboard view for non-Members includes the Quick Look, RosterResource and News cards, with different stats tables depending on whether the player is a hitter:

Or a pitcher:

If you’re a FanGraphs Member, however, you can customize both the cards at the top and the stats table to your heart’s content. In the upper right corner of the player page, just below the player’s position, there is an “Open Settings” button:

You Aren't a FanGraphs Member

It looks like you aren't yet a FanGraphs Member (or aren't logged in). We aren't mad, just disappointed.

We get it. You want to read this article. But before we let you get back to it, we'd like to point out a few of the good reasons why you should become a Member.

1. Ad Free viewing! We won't bug you with this ad, or any other.

2. Unlimited articles! Non-Members only get to read 10 free articles a month. Members never get cut off.

3. Dark mode and Classic mode!

4. Custom player page dashboards! Choose the player cards you want, in the order you want them.

5. One-click data exports! Export our projections and leaderboards for your personal projects.

6. Remove the photos on the home page! (Honestly, this doesn't sound so great to us, but some people wanted it, and we like to give our Members what they want.)

7. Even more Steamer projections! We have handedness, percentile, and context neutral projections available for Members only.

8. Get FanGraphs Walk-Off, a customized year end review! Find out exactly how you used FanGraphs this year, and how that compares to other Members. Don't be a victim of FOMO.

9. A weekly mailbag column, exclusively for Members.

10. Help support FanGraphs and our entire staff! Our Members provide us with critical resources to improve the site and deliver new features!

We hope you'll consider a Membership today, for yourself or as a gift! And we realize this has been an awfully long sales pitch, so we've also removed all the other ads in this article. We didn't want to overdo it.

Because hitters and pitchers have different card options, their settings have to be changed separately. For both positions, you can choose between displaying three or six cards, and you can change which card is where in the three-by-one or three-by-two grid by selecting different cards from the drop-down selectors:

To see all the cards without limiting yourself to six, you can always go to the “Dashboard – All Cards” page at the very bottom of the menus on the left side of a player page. This page is viewable to non-Members, but only Members can rearrange the cards displayed on the page:

As for the stats dashboard, that is even more customizable than the cards, since we have a ridiculous and frankly overwhelming number of stats to choose from. To customize the stats dashboard, you can either click on the green “Custom” button above the stats table (yours will say “Customize” if it’s still set to the default), or go to fangraphs.com/settings. That will open the customization page, with several folders containing stats options on the left and the ones you currently have selected on the right:

Selecting a stat and then clicking the right arrow icon will move it to the bottom of your selected stats. You can then arrange where it’s displayed on your dashboard using the up and down arrows. The top stat will be the one that’s the farthest left on your custom table. The first folder, labeled “Misc,” also has a line break option that you can insert between as many stats as you’d like.

To remove a stat from your stats list, simply select the stat you’d like to remove using the checkboxes and then press the “X” button. To start over completely, use the bottom button that looks like a list with an X next to it. Your changes won’t save until you’ve hit the “Submit” button at the bottom of the menu, so if you’d rather not retrace your steps to undo your edits, you can refresh the page and it will revert to whatever your stats were before making changes.

Changes made here will apply to every other player page until you change the selected stats again. If you’d like to make a one-off report for a player or set of players, the Custom Reports feature within our leaderboards is what you’re looking for. The selectors are at the top of the leaderboards:

Clicking “Custom Report” will open a menu that’s essentially identical to the one used for customizing stats on the player pages, while clicking “Custom Players” allows you to select whichever players you’d like:

Non-Members are limited to 10 stats, so you can’t make anything quite as glorious as this unless you’re a Member:

Members also have the ability to export to Excel for deeper analysis. To become a Member, subscribe here.
