Everton have bolstered David Moyes' squad with a deal for Christian Nørgaard, but he may not be the only player who swaps north London for the Hill Dickinson this summer.

The Dane completed his move from Arsenal this week, signing a two-year contract after the clubs agreed a fee widely reported to be around £7 million.

It is not the glamorous arrival supporters usually crave, but it makes plenty of sense.

Nørgaard captained Brentford, helped them reach the Premier League and became one of the division's most reliable holding midfielders at one time.

Arsenal bought him last summer to add leadership and depth to a title challenge, although he managed only seven league appearances and one start.

At 32, he has joined Everton because he reportedly wants a bigger role, and Moyes should give him one.

Idrissa Gueye's departure left a gap in front of the defence, and Nørgaard offers the same amount of top-level experience to guide younger midfielders like Hayden Hackney and Merlin Röhl.

He will not transform Everton's attack, though, and that remains the obvious area requiring attention, alongside their glaring need for a new right-back.

The Toffees scored 47 Premier League goals last season. Only two teams who stayed up managed fewer, while their total of 53 big chances also placed them near the bottom of the division.

Everton manager David Moyes reacts

Moyes could still use a proven alternative to Beto and Thierno Barry, and Gabriel Jesus would bring exactly that.

The Brazilian is not a traditional target man. He drops short, presses defenders and can operate through the middle or from either flank.

His Premier League record also carries real weight, with four titles at Man City before his £45 million switch to Arsenal in 2022. However, the big concern is his injury history.

Jesus tore the ACL in his left knee in January 2025 and spent 11 months out. He returned last December and produced a memorable Champions League double against Inter at San Siro, but still started only three Premier League matches during the campaign.

His place at Arsenal now looks uncertain.

TEAMtalk reports that the champions are 'pushing' for a permanent sale before his contract enters its final months and have set an asking price between £18 million and £20 million.

Napoli are said to have contacted the 29-year-old's representatives, while Fenerbahçe and Besiktas have also explored a move. Fenerbahçe reportedly prefer a loan, which does not suit Arsenal's current position.

Everton are also named in the report, and their interest is described as long-standing and still there.

However, they're not quite as advanced as Napoli or any of the other clubs after him.

If that changes, Jesus would raise Everton's level and give Moyes a proven operator across the front line, yet the transfer would still require careful thought.

The fee looks manageable for a player of his pedigree, but his salary and recent injury history could turn an attractive deal into an expensive gamble.

Everton's interest is believable, whether it becomes a bid may depend on Jesus accepting a smaller financial package and proving he can remain fit.
