Doing it in the midst of losing and during a losing season, Elly De La Cruz still made history in multiple ways on Wednesday night. 

When De La Cruz homered in the top of the fourth inning in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, he became the first Cincinnati Reds player to record a home run streak of at least five games since Joey Votto in 2021.

His first home run of the streak came on Sept. 5 in the second game of a three-game series with the National League's best Milwaukee Brewers. 

He homered the next night again and then in each of the three games in Los Angeles. But prior to this current streak, De La Cruz had not homered since Aug. 22. 

De La Cruz's solo shot was also his 26th of the year, setting a new single-season career-high for the 24-year-old shortstop. He crushed 25 in 2024 and then just 22 last year. However, his career-high in RBI of 86 did come in 2025 despite hitting fewer home runs.

De La Cruz should be a star for Cincinnati for years to come 

In 127 games in 2026, De La Cruz now has 26 home runs, 62 RBI and 88 runs scored. 

Continually proving to be a cornerstone player, De La Cruz is locked in as part of the future of the Reds along with Sal Stewart. 

Already a two-time All-Star, De La Cruz, a native of the Dominican Republic, now has 85 home runs and 275 RBI in 547 games across four seasons after making his MLB debut in June of 2023.
