Berlanga’s power eventually proved too much after a rocky start, forcing the referee to halt the fight in Round 7 with Butler no longer able to defend himself.

The opening round belonged to Berlanga, who kept the fight at his preferred range with a sharp jab and steady movement. Butler spent much of the round trying to close the distance without much success as Berlanga dictated the pace.

In round two, Berlanga connected with a left hook and a straight right, but Butler answered before the bell with a right hand that sent the New Yorker to the canvas. Berlanga beat the count and returned to his corner, although the knockdown gave Butler renewed confidence.
