Eddie Hearn Offers Himself as Kellerman’s Replacement

Eddie Hearn’s proposed cure for Max Kellerman’s press conference hosting puts Hearn exactly where he wants to be: holding the microphone, directing the conversation, and sharing the spotlight with the fighters.

His complaint about pacing has merit. Long introductions can flatten a boxing launch. But handing control to Anthony Joshua’s promoter creates an obvious conflict over whose interests the host serves.

“I don’t mean to be disrespectful to Max Kellerman, who I think is a fantastic broadcaster; they should just let me do it,” said Eddie Hearn to The Stomping Ground. “He’s a little bit too long-winded, and it’s a little bit too staged. You’ve got to let the promoters do the press conference, or the ones that are willing to stand up there and get things bubbling and going. Sometimes it can be a little bit too corporate.”

“They should just let me do it” is the revealing line. Hearn identifies a presentation issue and immediately nominates himself as the solution. His proposal would give him greater influence over the questions, follow-ups, and moments that become headlines.

A broadcaster should have room to challenge both fighters about recent performances, preparation, and uncomfortable career setbacks. Joshua’s promoter has a commercial interest in how those subjects are handled. That does not prove Hearn would suppress difficult questions, but it makes him a compromised choice to ask them.

There is also a weakness in the entertainment argument. Promoter-led insults and rehearsed arguments can feel every bit as staged as an elaborate broadcaster’s introduction. Getting the room louder does not automatically make the discussion more revealing.

Fury against Joshua offers enough sporting substance: declining physical tools, tactical adjustments and trainers who know the opposing fighter. Those questions deserve concise answers and persistent follow-ups.

The practical fix is straightforward: shorten Kellerman’s introductions, tighten the questions and keep the fighters talking. Hearn’s alternative risks turning their launch into another episode of the Eddie Hearn Show.
