After his release from the Athletics, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed outfielder Drew Avans off waivers on June 8. Just three games into his Triple-A stint with the Nashville Sounds, he was promoted to Milwaukee’s major league roster.

Avans was officially called up on his birthday, June 13, and made his Brewers debut on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In just his second at-bat with the Brewers — and only the 17th of his major league career — Avans drove in his first career run with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, putting the Brewers ahead 2-1.

In the seventh inning with no outs, Avans stepped in for his next at-bat and grounded out, advancing Caleb Durbin from first to scoring position. Durbin later scored the decisive run in Milwaukee’s 3–2 win.

The win sealed a series victory over the Cardinals, with the Brewers taking three of four, and capped an impactful team debut for Avans.
