Shohei Ohtani did not waste any time in making history on Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star crushed a 2-0 sinker from Rockies pitcher Michael Lorenzen, belting the ball to deep center for a leadoff home run, and his 300th career homer. Ohtani became the first Japanese player to reach that milestone, extending his lead for home runs for Japanese players over Hideki Matsui (175).

Ohtani had entered Tuesday in the midst of another impressive season offensively. He had posted a .294/.409/.535 batting line in his 386 plate appearances, hitting 19 homers and 15 doubles.

Ohtani has impressed on the pitching side as well. He has posted a 1.79 ERA and a 0.946 WHIP over his 85.2 innings, striking out 95 batters with 26 walks. His exploits on the mound and in the batter's box have made him the prohibitive favorite to win a fourth consecutive MVP award.

Ohtani may not stop with MVP awards. He is 29 stolen bases away from becoming the 56th player in MLB history with over 200 home runs and 200 steals in his career. Ohtani not only became the sixth member of the 40-40 club in 2024, but he also established the 50-50 club in one of the most impressive offensive seasons in recent memory. 

Although he is not showing any signs of slowing down, his final stop will be in Cooperstown. His 300th home run is just another milestone on that journey.
