Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayLos Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell is a noted postseason weapon.
Slated to start Game 1 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, Snell has posted a 2.58 ERA and a 1.033 WHIP over 69.2 career playoff innings, striking out 89 batters with 28 walks. The 32-year-old has been outstanding during the Dodgers' march to the World Series this year, allowing just two runs on six hits and five walks over 21 innings, striking out 28 batters.
Snell has also carved his place into MLB history. The 2018 All-Star is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, one of just seven pitchers to win the award in both leagues. He joined four Hall of Famers (Gaylord Perry, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Roy Halladay), a future Hall of Famer (Max Scherzer) and Roger Clemens.
Blake Snell adding to interesting resume with Dodgers
Snell has put together a solid career. In 10 seasons, he has a 3.15 ERA and a 1.219 WHIP over 1,158 innings, striking out 1,440 batters with 521 walks. Although Snell has made at least 25 appearances in a year only twice due to injuries, he has been one of the best pitchers of his generation when he has been on the mound.
An interesting comparison can be made between Snell and Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom. While deGrom has been in the majors for two more years to have the advantage in counting stats, their rate numbers are similar. deGrom is typically regarded as a future Hall of Famer due to his dominance when healthy and the changes in starting pitcher usage. Snell appears to be on the same path.
His postseason dominance cannot be discounted. The likes of Jack Morris and Bill Mazeroski have been enshrined in Cooperstown, in large part, because of their playoff performances. If Snell can continue to perform similarly to deGrom and is instrumental in the Dodgers repeating as World Series champions, he may find his way to the Hall of Fame as well.
