Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Los Angeles Dodgers are the team everyone loves to hate in Major League Baseball — the new Evil Empire.
Some argue that they're ruining baseball, while others say they're just doing what every team should.
Regardless of where one stands, the fact of the matter is that they keep making blockbuster deals and stacking up the roster like a video game.
That's why, given their recent issues with their rotation, MLB Pipeline analyst Jim Callis believes they will be all-in on Tarik Skubal, mostly because they can outbid any other team.
The Dodgers can put together a Godfather-like offer for Tarik Skubal
“Would it matter more to the Dodgers to add Skubal to their rotation or keep him out of a competitor’s? In either case, if they decide they want him, it will be hard to trump their offer,” Callis wrote.
While he argued that the Detroit Tigers could demand a steep return for their two-time AL Cy Young winner, he firmly believes the Dodgers are in a position to meet any demands.
“If Detroit desires a big league-ready starter as part of the package, Los Angeles could offer Justin Wrobleski or Emmett Sheehan. The Dodgers also lead all organizations with nine Top 100 Prospects, so they could trade some combination of them – outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-hander Christian Zazueta? – without feeling a pinch. They have depth in young talent with Major League experience (Alex Freeland) and in the minors beyond the Top 100 (left-hander Zach Root, third baseman Chase Harlan, hopelessly blocked outfielder Ryan Ward) as well,” he added.
The Dodgers' rotation has taken a bit of a hit lately. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is dealing with a knee injury, and he may not toe the rubber again this season.
Roki Sasaki hasn't been nearly as good as advertised, and you never know what version of him you'll get.
Tyler Glasnow has been out since early May with a back injury, with Blake Snell also out and Gavin Stone not even taking the mound at all.
Adding Skubal might look like overkill at first glance, but for the first time in years, Dave Roberts' team might actually need some help.
